Short bio:
Since 2002, I am a Research Scientist in Software Engineering at the computer
engineering Lab of Telecom Bretagne. Telecom Bretagne is a leading French educational
and research institution (selective Grande Ecole engineering school affiliated to Telecom Institute), CDIO-compliant with an ECTS accreditation (i.e.,
European Credit Transfer System) and founding member of the European
University of Brittany.
I received my Ph.D. degree in Software Architecture from the INRIA Laboratory in
Rennes, France (an INRIA research center, i.e. the French Public
National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control).
Simultaneously, I was also a temporary Lecturer in computer engineering
at the IFSIC
and ENSSAT
engineering graduate schools.
Research Activities in Software Engineering
Focus areas:
- Designing large and complex software systems: software architecture styles, modeling
techniques, distributed software architecture (P2P, mobile code/agents, *-tiers, SOA), Component-Based
Software Engineering (CBSE), Service Oriented Computing (SOC), middleware;
- Modeling: formal approaches, Specification and Verification, elicitation and
management of non-functional requirements (NFR), behavioral and non functional property (NFP) analysis
methods, illities, NFP-oriented model transformation, metrics for model comparison.
Current Activities:
I am
conducting researches on non-functional properties (e.g., security,
performance, dependability, scalability), and other quality attributes. Non-functional properties should be tackled as soon
as possible in specifications, without neglecting that property
dependencies could create inconsistencies.
Ongoing Projects:
- Model Driven TOOL Interoperability [2009-] (Telecom Bretagne);
- QSoftArch [2006-]: specifying distributed software architectural
styles for early quality analysis (Telecom Bretagne);
- CAMA [2004-]: Components for Mobile Adaptable
Architectures (Telecom Bretagne);
Former Projects:
- RA&S [2005-2008]: a research program on
spontaneous networks (Telecom Institute):
- component model for peer-to-peer overlays in a context-aware
middleware for MANETs (pdf);
- CADySIMo [2002-05]: Composition and Adaptability in
Mobile Environments (ENST Bretagne);
- C3DS [1998-2000]: a research project on Control and
Coordination of Complex Distributed Services:
- 4th EU's Framework Programme, long term European ESPRIT
project;
- architectural description language (ADL) and environment
including specification of components, connectors, and runtime
requirements for managing agents, workflows, and reconfigurations;
- ASTER [1995-2000]: Software
Architectures for Distributed Systems (INRIA).
Education
Engineering and Learning Models
Focus areas:
- Education for engineers, curriculum program design and
development, coordination and managment, learning outcomes, technology
enhanced learning;
- Active and experiental learning style models, project- and
work-based learning, professional competencies.
Current Activities:
I am involved in a broad range of courses relating to computer science
and software engineering both at B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels (e.g.,
Requirements, Software Architecture, Programming Languages, UML,
Business Process Modeling, Workflow).
In connection with those theoretical and practical courses, I
investigate problem and project-based learning style models that focus
more on the process and reflectivity (e.g., PBL, Dewey
experiental education, Mastery learning), both at pedagogical and
engineering levels (e.g., APP
definition, tutor training).
Since 2003, I am particularly involved in integrating such models in
Telecom Bretagne curricula, with a clear focus on student's competency
development. I am also attempting to promote the development of those
pedagogical models in Technology-enhanced learning.
- I am conducing to develop active- and project-pedagogy,
competences for engineers, and degrees based on work experience (i.e.,
French VAE, vocational qualification):
- I am/was tutor of several Student Engineering Projects and training at B.Sc.
and M.Sc. levels;
- I was UV-Metiers" co-manager: undergraduate and potsgraduate
sessions on personnal development - educational, vocational guidance
and careers counseling; accompagning and developing students'
competencies through coaching, training sessions, instruments for Human
Resources (e.g. portfolio, assessment center exercises, psychometric
tests);
- I was co-coordinator of M.Sc. Information Systems course;
- I have been working with several trainees for internships and for Ph.D.
Former Projects:
- LICIP [2003-2009]: Collaborative Engineering and
Pedagogical Innovations (Telecom Institute);
- CSCW for engineers (e.g. Web2.0, Forge, GanttTools);
- INVOCOM [2002-05]: European project on
"Internet-based Vocational Training of Communication Students,
Engineers, and Technicians";
- LEONARDO European Commission's
Lifelong Learning Programme with Poland, Finland, Portugal and France;
- I was ENST Bretagne project manager;
- I was coordinator of the semester engineering "Complex Systems"
Project for students (see publication
area);
- I was module coordinator of INF 102 course: "Views on Computer Science"; INF102-Moodle.
